Three newly reconstructed homes in Muharraq and four others in the Northern Governorate were handed back to the areas' municipal councils. According to GDN, the homes were rebuilt as part of a gesture by King Hamad to extend a helping hand to the owners of dilapidated homes around Bahrain and sponsor the rebuilding of their homes.

The scheme is designed to benefit mainly households which are not eligible for existing government housing services, such as elderly couples, widows, divorced women and single parents. The gesture calls for the renovation and rebuilding of 500 housing units a year for five years at a cost of BD10 million.
