British and US firms awarded new Iraqi reconstruction deals

The US Department of Defense has named a new group of seven US and British contract winners to manage the rebuilding of Iraq, launching a fresh phase of US-funded reconstruction plans. 

 

The agreements cover development programs in six sectors from oil to electricity and are the first set of deals in a five billion dollar construction package.  

 

Los Angeles-based AECOM was awarded a $21.6 million program management office support contract. The company will ensure coordination among the sectors, standardization across the sectors and report to the occupying Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) Program Management Office. 

 

CH2M Hill/Parsons, a joint venture between CH2M Hill and Parsons Water Infrastructure was awarded a $28 million contract to provide support to the Public Works and Water Sector. Berger/URS, a joint venture between the Louis Berger Group and URS Group, was awarded an $8.4 million contract to provide support to the Transportation/Communication Sector Program Management Office.  

 

The joint venture was also awarded an $8.4 million contract to provide support to the Security/Justice Sector Program and a $10.7 million contract to provide support to the Buildings/Education/Health Sector Program Management Office. 

The Iraq Power Alliance, a joint venture between Parsons Energy, Chemicals Group and UK-based Parsons-Brinkerhoff, was awarded a $43.3 million contract to provide support to the Electrical Services Sector Program Management Office. 

 

Finally, UK-based Foster Wheeler was awarded an $8.4 million contract to provide support to the Oil Sector Program Management Office. 

 

The management contracts are expected to be followed in the coming days by 10 other contracts for construction projects in the areas of public works and water, transportation and communication, security and justice, building, education and health, and electrical services. — (menareport.com)
