Canada’s Bombardier Transportation has pulled out of a consortium bidding to build and operate a light rail in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Bombardier was part of the Adanim Consortium, which includes the Dan Bus Cooperative, Property and Building, Bouyges Construction and RATP of France.
The company withdrew from the grouping “for commercial reasons,” according to Globes. “Bombardier found the Tel Aviv project not economically worthwhile, and therefore withdrew from the tender,” senior transport industry sources said.
There are three other consortia bidding for the 5.8 billion Israel shekel ($1.2 billion) Build Operate Transfer (BOT) tender for the Tel Aviv light railway project. The line will be 22 kilometers in length with 32 planned stops.
Based in Montreal, Bombardier Transportation is active in rail equipment manufacturing and the servicing industry.
The company received a 47 million Canadian dollar ($30.1 million) order from the Ports and Railways Authority-Israel Railways in 2002 to deliver six four-car double-deck trains. The order was a follow-on agreement to a contract signed in August 1999. — (menareport.com)
