Passenger movement at Dubai International Airport has gone up to 13.2 million in the third quarter of 2003 as compared to 11.8 million in 2002 showing an 11.8 percent growth.

Cargo movement is up to 679,445 tons in 2003 as compared to 548,269 tons in 2002, growing 24 percent, stated a press release. Aircraft movement has also shown positive growth by registering 122,896 movements in 2003 as compared to 110,090 in 2002, showing a growth of 11.6 percent.

January and February witnessed the highest movement of passengers with a growth of 25.9 percent and 19.8 percent respectively. Whereas the most successful months for Dubai Cargo Village have been March and April with 32 percent and 28.6 percent growth respectively.

Executive Flight Services (EFS) showed a 110 percent growth in the month of September alone. It handled 310 movements in September 2003 as compared to 148 last year.

Earlier this year, according to statistics released by Airports Council International (ACI), Dubai International Airport emerged as the second fastest growing airport in the world in terms of international passenger movement. Dubai International Airport had 20 percent growth in 2002 and witnessed the second highest growth after Korea Incheon which grew 43 percent.

Though Dubai had 16-million passenger throughput in 2002, ACI has discounted the transit passengers from their international passenger movement figures. The report on 2002 traffic movement places Dubai as 16th in terms of volume of international passengers with 14.89 million passengers.

According to projections, 2003 will witness 18-million passenger throughput, while by 2010 Dubai will have 40 million passengers. — (menareport.com)
