Egypt’s corn and rice output expands
The Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Yousuf Walli, estimates the total areas planted with corn in the country at 1.7 million fadans, while the per fadan average productivity rate is assessed at 24.5 irdibs. According to Al-Ahram newspaper, the total corn output is put at 5.7 million tons by the end of this year.
Similarly, there has been a growth in the local output of rice in Egypt. The national rice association estimates the area planted with rice at 1.1 million fadans this year. 90 percent of these areas will be planted with highly productive and improved rice seeds.
