Egypt said: "cannot survive without the Nile water".
Ethiopia said: "you can have the water, but we get electricity"
Egypt said: "No, you cannot use the Nile water for any reason - it is exclusively ours."
Ethiopia said, "I am the source of 85% of the Nile waters and I have never claimed I have the exclusive rights on this River. How dare do you claim that it is exclusively yours?" You must be too selfish and too ungrateful to recognize the needs of others. If you don't understand my selfless and kind offer, then you will learn the hard way. From now on I will use the water to satisfy the basic needs of my own people first, and I will be open to negotiate on the remaining amount of water that flows out of my territory.
