The Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform on Monday singed with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) a cooperation agreement to implement a project to set up a 24-month early warning system against drought in the central Syrian Badia (semi-desert area).
The agreement stipulates that FAO will contribute US$244,000 for the project in order to help Syrian Ministry of Agriculture to reduce risks of drought and overcome effects as well as create suitable conditions to reach food security at family level.
The project also aims at training local technical cadres to collect and analyze climate, ground and plantation data to be used as an early indicator to warn against drought and other purposes. (menareport.com)
