Spending $40 million in the plan aimed at self–sufficiency in wheat has saved Iran some $1 billion, according to a university lecturer.
Dr. Sadeq Khalilian, head of the Agriculture Economy Group of Tarbiat Modarres University told MNA: “Instead of foreign farmers, Iranian wheat growers have benefited the sum. Furthermore, this will result in narrowing the gap between the farmers’ expenses and incomes and will lead to boosting their purchasing power.”
According to him, the cost price of wheat production in Iran is lower than in other states. Producing one kilogram of wheat in developed and wheat exporting countries costs 2.16 times more than Iran. (menareport.com)
