Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) is expected to award a $2.22 billion power generation and desalination project order next week to a Japanese consortium made up of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and Mitsui & Co, according to Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
The firms are expected to be officially named joint developers for the Umm Al-Nar independent water and power project (IWPP). The largest project of its kind in the Middle East, the scheme includes the construction of a 1.55-million-kilowatt power generator and a desalination plant, with the capacity to produce 110,000 tons of water per day.
The plant, to be situated in Umm Al-Nar, is expected to go on-stream partially in mid-2005 and reach completing the following year. — (menareport.com)
