Mittal Steel to expand in Algeria
Mittal Steel, the world's largest steel maker, is planning to expand in Algeria. After purchasing Hadjar complex close to Annaba and two ore facilities in Tebessa, the company eyes the purchase of relevant Algerian public firms, La Tribune reported.
Mittal arrived in Algeria in October 2001 with the purchase of Hadjar complex.
The Algerian affiliate of Mittal, which employs currently close to 9,000 persons, produced 1.4 million tons of steel last year and announced a profit of about US$100 million.
