Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Oman's Commerce and Industry Minister signed at the Ministry’s meeting hall Tuesday an agreement worth RO4.4 million to establish the infrastructure of Salalah free zone project.
According to ONA, work on this project is expected to commence in the upcoming days and be complete during the first quarter of 2006, he noted, adding that the project is implemented by a local company.
Maqbool said this strategic project will be set on an area of 2,400 hectares. The first phase of the project will be developed on an area of 73 hectares. He noted a number of projects, notably the methanol project will be established at the free zone.
On his part, Eng. Hamad bin Hassan al-Dheeb, commerce and industry undersecretary said the first phase of the project is expected to attract distribution companies and small and medium manufacturers. He stressed that the project will enhance the port business and domestic trade.
