US-based Energy Solutions, a supplier of Internet-based pipeline and business management applications for the oil and gas industry, will provide real-time pipeline management tools to the Oman Gas Company (OGC).
Invensys, which is supplying the SCADA system for the project, selected Energy Solutions' pipeline modeling application system (ESIPAS). OGC will use ESIPAS to maximize capacity, reduce operational costs and improve safety across its existing gas network as well as on two new pipelines.
The OGC installation of ESIPAS includes real-time online modeling (RTM) and leak detection and location, with additional applications including inventory analysis, instrument drift analysis, scraper tracking, and a gas dispatching module. OGC's principal requirements of the system will be leak detection, leak location, gas inventory, and capacity determination.
OGC will use ESIPAS to model both OGC's existing gas pipelines and its new pipeline expansion project. The new section consists of two gas pipelines that transport gas to Sohar and Salalah. The maximum gas requirements over the life of the project are estimated to be 6.9 and 1.3 billion cubic meters annually to Sohar and Salalah respectively.
OGC owns and operates the gas transportation facilities of the Sultanate of Oman, supplying natural gas to power stations and other industrial consumers. It operates pipelines totaling approximately 1,000 kilometers with a capacity of 20 million cubic meters daily. OGC is a joint project of the government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Oman Oil Company. — (menareport.com)
