Downtown Dubai, the flagship development of Emaar Properties PJSC, described as ‘The Centre of Now,’ is welcoming the world to join in its spectacular New Year’s Celebrations 2012.
Now in the league of the most popular global New Year’s celebrations and eagerly awaited by an international audience, the New Year’s Celebrations 2012 in Downtown Dubai is organised with the support of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the Centre of Ambulance Services, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and Dubai Media Incorporated and Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment (DEPE).
The New Year’s celebrations in Downtown Dubai, already in the spotlight with its festive lighting, will be flagged off at The Burj Steps by a music concert by Hussein Al Jasmi, the popular Emirati singer, on December 29. A range of festive events will also be hosted in The Dubai Mall including children’s activities.
The excitement will reach a feverish pitch on December 31, with the distinctive fireworks extravaganza in Downtown Dubai. While the 828 metres (2,716.5 ft) Burj Khalifa will host a stunning fireworks display – described as the ‘world’s largest fireworks,’ various venues in Downtown Dubai will also celebrate the arrival of the New Year with fireworks, together creating an unprecedented ambience.
Having already elevated Dubai to the league of the world’s most preferred destinations to mark the end of the year; the New Year’s Celebrations are open for the public. They can revel in the celebrations from Burj Park, an island overlooking Burj Khalifa, set on Burj Lake. Visitors can also enjoy the celebrations from the Waterfront Promenade lining the adjacent Dubai Mall, Burj Plaza, the 3.5km Emaar Boulevard, The Pavilion in Downtown Dubai, and other areas in Downtown Dubai, in addition to a drive-in designated location in Al Meydan area. Dubai Media Incorporated will also broadcast celebrations live on Dubai TV, Dubai One, and Dubai FM.
Mr. Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties, said: “The New Year’s Celebrations 2012 will once again put Dubai in the global spotlight, and underline the city’s competencies in hosting world-class festive events. The countdown to the New Year and the fireworks will reiterate the eminent position of Downtown Dubai as ‘The Centre of Now’ and offer visitors from around a world a memorable experience as they welcome the New Year in Dubai.”
Ms Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment, said: “Dubai is now rightfully acknowledged as a world leader for events and festivals, and this New Year’s Eve there is no better place to celebrate. Earlier this year, Dubai was named the Middle East's ‘2011 World Festival and Event City' by the International Festivals and Events Association, and it is activities like the New Year's Eve celebrations across the city, as well as a packed festival calendar throughout the year, that have been central in securing the Emirate’s status as a global hub for events.
The festival and events sector now plays a major role in building Dubai’s economy, attracting visitors from across the region and around the world. We are pleased to be part of the New Year's Eve festivities with our Strategic Partner, Emaar Properties, and to be able to welcome visitors to Downtown Dubai to witness some of the world’s most stunning celebrations.”
To take part in the celebrations, visitors are encouraged to be in Downtown Dubai by 10pm on December 31. Alternative parking with RTA feeder buses will be available at Meydan, Za’abeel Park and Dubai World Trade Centre, in addition to parking at various Metro stations.
