HP announced today that Tamweel, a leading Islamic Mortgage Provider in the Middle East, relied on HP technology and the Critical Advantage services to ensure speedy business restoration when fire damaged the facility building which was hosting its data center.
Tamweel’s offices including its data center are located in the Tamweel Tower, a 34-floor mix of residential, office and retail space occupying a prime location in the waterfront community of Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The company’s IT infrastructure based on HP storage and HP ProLiant blade servers at the main Tamweel Tower site were duplicated at a separate DR site as part of its established Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan.
On November 18, 2012, a fire broke out in Tamweel Tower rendering the building unusable. While fire was prevented inside the Tamweel offices and data center by installed fire-fighting equipment, temperature inside the data center rose as air-conditioning and electric power to the tower had to be cut off.
Tamweel turned to HP Technology Support Services for service support.
“Thanks to HP installed technology, recovery tools and their service support, our IT Team was able to bring the Disaster Recovery site to production environment within 24 hours. We are also working with HP to enable smooth failover and failback of virtual machines across the two sites,” said Sherif Mansour, VP – Head of IT, Tamweel.
“Business continuity in the event of an unforeseen crisis is essential for any organization,” said Ryan D’Souza, Technology Services Director, HP Middle East. “This incident clearly demonstrates the importance of readiness and the value of a support contract that extends beyond reactive services, to form a close working partnership.”
