The Qatari Ministry of Economy and Commerce has clarified that it had no authority to intervene and check the increasing rents of residential and commercial properties.

The matter of rent is entirely between a property owner and the tenant and is governed by the agreement they have signed.

Sources at the ministry told The Peninsula that since Qatar believed in free market economy, the question of rent was left solely to supply and demand.

The sky-rocketing rents has become an issue of concern to expatriates in Qatar, with many urging the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to intervene in the real estate market to stabilise rents.
