Airlines operating across the Gulf region have slashed fares to several destinations across Europe, Asia and Middle East during the Holy Month of Ramadan, with a view to attracting travellers.

Leading the pack is the national carrier, Oman Air, which is offering special Ramadan Retreat Khareef in Salalah for RO110 per person.

The Ramadan Retreat bonanza packages include return flights, accommodation in five star hotels for two nights, airport transfers, taxes and suhoor or buffet breakfasts.

"Refresh yourself this Ramadan in Salalah! Retreat from the heat and humidity and discover the most relaxing destination to observe your fast. A much cooler place, resplendent with lush greenery and verdant landscapes. Enjoy your Iftar dinner and discover the alluring natural beauty of panoramic spots in Salalah,- says the Oman Air campaign.

Incidentally, Emirates yesterday announced some "excellent fares- to 32 select destinations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Far East and the Indian sub-continent, during Ramadan.

Big saving
"Customers can save up to 20 per cent to select destinations while travelling in economy or business class. The offer can be availed of until August 11 for outbound travel,- it said. Some of the 32 destinations in the Emirates Ramadan offer are Bangkok, London, Beirut, Geneva, Istanbul, Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Cairo, Manila and Johannesburg.

Discount
Qatar Airways, the Doha-based airline, has launched special fares from Muscat to cities across the Middle East and around the world. "Passengers travelling on Qatar Airways flight can get 25 per cent discount on fares for selected destinations subject to certain terms and conditions. The savings are based on return fares and include taxes,- a travel agent said.

The promotion will continue until July 21 and the validity for travel is up to October 17.

"With Ramadan coinciding with extreme summer in the Middle East, a large number of airlines have come up with offers so that people can spend the Holy Month in cool climes,- a travel agent based in Muscat said.

Travel agents believe that the onset of Ramadan also coincides with the end of busy summer travel period. "This is simple because business travel in the region drops because of shortened working hours and the overall decline in commercial activity,- he said.
