Rolls-Royce celebrates engine order from Emirates
British engineering group Rolls-Royce celebrated an order worth up to $475 million (530 million euros) on Monday, November 5 as part of a $15 billion order from the Emirates airline for dozens of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
Rolls-Royce stock rose 1.5 percent to 151.25 pence in London as the company hailed an order that provided some relief for the battered aviation industry. The British group said its Trent engines would power eight Airbus A340-360 jets ordered by Emirates, and another three Airbust A330-200 twinjets.
"Emirates' expansion plans are a welcome signal for the industry," said John Cheffins, head of Rolls-Royce's civil aerospace division. "The airline already successfully operates two types of aircraft with Trent engines and, with the Trent 500 on the A340-500/-600, it will be taking a third." — (AFP, London)
