US-based Energy Solutions will supply its real- time pipeline management tools to Dolphin Energy (DEL) for the Dolphin Gas Project. Servelec, which is supplying the scada system for the project, has chosen Energy Solutions' pipeline modeling application system (ESIPAS) to model a natural gas pipeline from Al-Ain to Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Dolphin Gas Project is valued at $3.5 billion, and is the largest single energy initiative to be undertaken in the Middle East. It will ultimately serve not only local markets, but extend the gas supply beyond the Gulf States to India and Pakistan.

DEL will use ESIPAS to perform real-time modeling, leak detection, leak location, shut-in leak location and scraper tracking on the Al Ain-Fujairah pipeline. Energy Solutions will also perform a leak sensitivity study on the line. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2003.

The Al-Ain-Fujairah pipeline crosses 182 kilometers of desert and mountains to provide natural gas to the new power and desalination plants of the Union Water and Electricity Company in Fujairah. The pipeline will transport an estimated 120 million cubic feet of gas daily. The gas will initially come from Qatar, marking the first time one Gulf Cooperation Council nation ships natural gas to another member state.

Dolphin Energy was founded in 1999 to produce, process, transport and supply natural gas from offshore Qatar to the UAE. — (menareport.com)
