Yemen expects new locust invasion

The manager of Yemen's National Center for Controlling Locusts and Desertification Abdu al-Romeih said the current environmental and climatic conditions in Shabwa and Marib governorates indicate to the possible of locust multiplication in the upcoming weeks.
Al-Romeih added that the locust invasion was much expected in Marib as a result of the fall of rain last July.
According to him, locusts may start to move towards the western coasts of Yemen and Tihama district this December.
The unstable situation in the African Horn is a sign of dangerous locusts spreading on the western coasts of Yemen as they may come from Eritrea where locusts overran 80,000 hectares. They may also come from Darfur region in Sudan by the middle of December.
"Survey teams should reach al-Jawb district in Marib to limit and stop locusts invasion," said al-Romeih, according to SABA.
