Egyptian Presidential Hopeful Al-Awa Wants Suzanne Mubarak on Lock Down

Al-Awa views Suzanne Mubarak as a possible threat to the Egyptian presidential election.

Egypt’s Mohamed Salim al-Awa, a presidential Hopeful, stressed on Saturday the need to put limits to former President Hosni Mubarak’s wife Suzanne connections with those abroad, or “put her under house arrest along with other members of the dismantled secretariat of the policies committee of the National Democratic Party (NDP) until the end of the presidential election” in order to put “an end to their continued efforts to disrupt the political life in Egypt.”

Awa stated that “the money plundered by the figures of the former regime will be recovered from abroad and distributed to all parts of the country fairly.”

In response to a question about US aid, Awa that said he welcomes any country that gives a hand to Egypt “without humiliation, dictations and conditions.”

He added that Egypt is a “rich country that can survive without foreign aid, when its people stand together and improve their economy.”

In response to a question on the Nile River Awa noted that there “should be cooperation with the countries of the Nile Basin,” and said we have plans to renegotiate with the upstream countries “in order to get an adequate share of water for Egyptians.”

With regard to the Shia doctrine in the country, Awa said “we will not accept spreading Shiism in Egypt” and that he rejects “the establishment of a Shiite party in Egypt.”

Two Shia were arrested this past week upon arrival in Egypt for having two books on the Islamic sect.
