The Education Minister Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi tweeted on Thursday that the teacher had been suspended after a footage of him hitting the child made by a fellow student went viral on Wednesday.
The video shows a teacher slapping a child at the back of the head and then slapping him on the cheek. The student is seen using his hands to stop the teacher while asking the teacher to stop.
Al Hamadi said the ministry has formed a panel to investigate the incidence and said that the ministry will take necessary legal and disciplinary action followed in this respect against the wrongful party in order to maintain "the utmost stability in our schools".
"Education that we aspire here in the country is based in its essence on bolstering the principle of mutual respect between the teacher and student, inculcating the moral values and education into students and making it a core attribute and an advantage as well to prevail the entire scholastic community," he said.
He said that the clip is not considered a standard to measure the educational environment in the country's schools. "It is a single case. we regret it had happened. We reject it and promise it will not reoccur," the minister added. The incident was among the most trending topics on Twitter on Wednesday.
