The film Muwaten wa Mukhber wa Harami (Citizen, Detective and Thief) won six prizes at the 28th Film Society Festival, which will be handed out next Saturday by the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouq Hosni, according to the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.
Muwaten wa Mukhber wa Harami won the best film award as well as the awards for best script and direction by Daoud Abdel Sayyed; best music by Rageh Daoud and filming by Samir Mahran. Also Salah Abdulla won the best actor award for his role in the film.
The best actress award went to Sawsan Bader for her role in the film al Abwab al Mughlaqa (Closed Doors), while the film star Ahmed Zaki won the Distinction prize for his performance and role in the film Ayyam al Sadat (Sadat Days), also, Ashraf Mohammed won the festival jury’s special prize for script.
6 out of 32 Egyptian films screened during the year 2001, competed in the formal contest: Ula Thanawi (First Secondary) directed by Mohammed Abu Seif, Asrar al Banat (Girls Secrets) by Magdi Ahmed Ali, al Abwab al Moghlaqa (Closed Doors) by Atef Hatata, Ayyam al Sadat (Sadat Days) by Mohammed Khan, Gawaz Bi Qarar Gomhuri (Marriage by Presidential Decree) by Khaled Yousef and Muwaten Mukhber Wa Harami (Citizen, Detective and Thief) by Daoud Abdel al Sayyed.
Later, director Yousef Shahin withdrew his film Sukoot Hansawwar (Quiet, we Will Shoot) from the contest.
The 6 films will compete for 13 awards for best film, actress, actor, scenario, direction, editing, music and etc.
The festival jury was headed by the renowned scenarist Wahid Hamed.
At the closing ceremony, the festival will honor director Hussein Kamal along with Magida and Yousef Shaaban, and will announce the winners.
The event is headed by Mahmoud Abdel Samia, the head of the society, and is managed by the critic Yaaqub Wahbi – Albawaba.com
