AFP-Egypt will be represented at Cannes film festival, which will be held next May, by the film “Sadat Days.”
The film is directed by Mohammed Khan and produced by the artist Ahmad Zaki who also plays a starring role in the film along with Mirvat Amin and Muna Zaki.
Medhat Zaki, Chief of Production Sector at the Egyptian TV and Radio Service, told AFP yesterday that “the production sector will submit a version of the film later this month to the viewing committee at Cannes Film Festival.”
The film director confirmed at the end of 1999 that the Egyptian participation in the festival was delayed by one year. He was preparing to present the film at last year’s festival.
Financial difficulties, which compelled the film producer and director to go to the production sector for participation, was the main reason for the film’s delay. The disagreements that erupted between Khan and Zaki and ended with complaints made to the Cinema Association caused further delays.
“Sadat Days” is, as its title reveals, about the life of the late Egyptian President Anwar Al Sadat who is portrayed on screen by Ahmad Zaki. The film explores Sadat as a politician and human being and his relationship with his wife Jihan who is played by Muna Zaki during Jihan’s youth and by Mirvat Amin during later stages of her life
