A new non-scripted series that will pitch filmmakers from the Gulf, India and Singapore against each other is set to be launched soon. Endorsed by the United Nations and supported by financing project Hyde Park-Image Nation and entertainment trade magazine Variety, the filmmakers will be split in teams and tasked with making documentaries to reflect the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
The winning team’s documentary will be screened at the United Nations and receive a special recognition from Variety during the 2013 Festival de Cannes.
While it was not clear yet whether the series, to be called Chance of a Lifetime, will be a television show or made into a film, it was revealed that Hollywood producer Ashok Amritraj, who owns Hyde Park Entertainment, will host the series. Each week, he will present the filmmaking teams with production tasks that they must accomplish to finish their final documentaries.
“Bringing the Middle East, India and Asia to a global audience has always been a passion of mine, and I’m thrilled to provide this platform for filmmakers of such diverse cultures to have a truly collaborative cinematic experience. The United Nations and Variety have been amazing partners on this project,” Amritraj said in a release
Hyde Park-Image Nation, his $250 million fund with Abu Dhabi’s Image Nation, will finance the series.
“Image Nation is honoured to partner with the UN, Variety and Ashok in creating such a groundbreaking international project,” said Mohamed Al Mubarak, chairman of Image Nation. “We look forward to the exciting work that these teams of documentarians will produce.”
Details on how aspiring filmmakers can participate, will be revealed later, said a representative of Image Nation.
