Algerian singer Warda has announced her plans to return back home to Algeria on a permanent basis. The renowned star said she intends on selling her Cairo apartment.
According to reports, Warda received an offer of 1.5 million Egyptian pounds for her apartment, however refused the offer; instead asking for a sum of two and a half million Egyptian pounds, claiming her apartment is more like a villa than an ordinary apartment.
Meanwhile, prior to her departure, Warda met with producer Mohsein Jaber and negotiated with him a price for her recent album, which Warda recorded after recovering from surgery she underwent last year in France.
The news about her return to Algeria came as no surprise. Last month, Warda denied press reports about her wish to stop her singing career and move to reside permanently in Algeria.
Speaking to the London based daily, Al Hayat, Warda dismissed all recent circulating rumors she had received orders from doctors to stop singing.
Born in Paris to an Algerian father and Lebanese mother, and living most of her life in Egypt, renowned diva Warda holds more than two hundred songs throughout her singing career. She cooperated with great composers in her life, like Riad Al Sonbaty, Baligh Hamdy, Mohammed Abdul Wahab, Sayed Mekkawy, Mohammed Al Mogy, Farid Al Atrash, Helmy Bakr, and many others.
On the big screen, she starred in "Sout Al Hob" (Voice of Love), "Hekayty Maa Al Zaman" (My Story With Time) in 1973, "Ah Ya Leil Ya Zaman" (Oh! Night and Life) in 1977, "Leih Ya Donia" (Why This My Life?!) in 1993. She also performed in one play "Tamr Henna", and one series" Awraq Al Ward" (Flowers Buds). Warda’s last album was "Ana Leyah Meen Gherak" (Whom Do I Have Except You!?) released in May 2001. (Albawaba.com)
