The Theater Committee at the Cairo Higher Cultural Council decided Tuesday to postpone until next March a panel on the Arab Theater, which had been announced as “the first step to revive [the frozen] the Arab Theater Festival.”
The committee postponed the seminar until enough funds are allocated for the event, which was to attract a large number of Arab theaterical figures from the various countries.
The committee, headed by the famous playwright Alfred Farag, had said that the budget available did not exceed EP10,000 (around $2500).
The committee wanted the forum to be the first step for holding the Arab Theater Festival for the second time, after it was cancelled in the wake of its first session in 1994, which was held under the title: Arab Theater Assembly.
The forum was due to discuss problems related the Arab theater in general and the challenges it faces at the regional level, in addition to remedial plans.
The gathering was to kick off in December under the banner “Arab Theater on a Road Junction: Challenges and Aspirations.”
A preparatory committee for the forum had been formed to include figures like Saad Ardash, Ahmed Othman, Ahmed Sakhsoukh, Huda Wasfi and Mohsen Moselhi.
