Skipping visit to Skippy costs Egyptian singer Amr Diab a trial
Egyptian pop star Amr Diab caused the loss of millions of dollars for Australian concert agent Alfonse Fouad, who is of Egyptian origin, after he refused to abide by the conditions of the contract he had previously signed.
According to Sayidaty.net, despite continuous attempts by Alfonse to try and get some of his losses back, Amr refused to answer any of his calls and returned to Cairo.
Alfonse then travelled to Cairo and filed a lawsuit against Amro demanding he pays for the losses incurred.
Alfonse filed the lawsuit in Egypt because the contract signed with Amr specifically states that only Egyptian courts can act in such matters.
Alfonse said that he had called Amr because he was one of his biggest fans and suggested he holds a performance in Australia. He added that Amr welcomed the idea and asked for a wage of 220 thousand US dollars for him and his band, which was agreed on.
Alfonse then said that Amr demanded the entire amount be transferred before the concert. At that time, Alfonse made all the necessary arrangements for the concert and reserved a concert hall that accommodates 13,000 people and even sent the singer plane tickets and hotel reservations upon the singer's request.
Amr was to arrive to Australia two days before the concert to hold interviews with a number of Australian channels to talk about his performance and ease the minds of those who had bought tickets.
His band arrived. He never followed.
Rumors began circulating that Amr had backed out of the concert and Alfonse requested a recorded promise to hold the concert, but Amr refused to do so, arguing that only four thousand tickets had been sold sold.
Amr had promised Alfonse that he will compensate him for the losses incurred, but the morning after the performance, Amr flew back to Egypt without further notification.
The incident led Alfonse to insist on filing a lawsuit against Amr especially since he waited patiently for 8 months for the singer to resolve the matter but nothing was changed and Amr continued to ignore all attempts made to solve the issue in a diplomatic manner.
Alfonse stressed he will not back out on the lawsuit until he is fully compensated for the millions he lost because of Amr's actions. Alfonse said that he never imagined Amr to be such a materialistic and shallow person.
