Scheduled for October 15 through 25, the 26th Cairo International Film Festival, headed by the festival's new president, Mr. Sherief Al Soubashy, will honor British star and Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave.
The London-based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, said on Monday that the honoring would come in recognition to the star's dedication to the acting world, since 1957. "Vanessa Redgrave is widely regarded as one of Great Britain's finest modern dramatic actresses," said Shoubashy.
Born January 30, 1937, British Redgrave studied drama at London's Central School of Music and Dance. She made her theatrical debut in 1957 and her film debut "Behind the Mask", the following year. In the 60's, the star gave life to Shakespeare's works with some of her country's finest performers and met her future husband, director Tony Richardson.
Shoubashy promised that this year's festival will witness more activities through special celebrations to be carried out at the Pyramids, inside Saladdin Fortress and at the Egyptian Opera House in honor of the festival guests. The activities range from movie shows, celebrities' press conferences, discussion forums, Film and Life Achievement award ceremonies, dinners at the foot of pyramids, Nile cruises, and special cultural events coming all the way from China, Turkey, Brazil and Africa, in addition to Egyptian folkloric performances.
Earlier last month, Shoubashy said that an international show would be organized at the opening ceremony dedicated to the late actress Suad Hosni, the Arab screen Cinderella. – Albawaba.com
