After eight years of see-sawing deliberations, an Egyptian court has decided to throw out the case filed by artist Hala Sudki against her husband, whom she accuses of stealing two blank papers with her signature during their engagement, according to the Qatari Al Raya newspaper.
Hala’s husband contested an earlier one-year jail term handed down against him, and managed to cut the sentence to six months. A dragged-out, dizzying series of appeals and legal paper-shuffling followed.
The court considered the couple’s marriage to be legal, since both belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The court’s final word on the matter was that since the artist had filed the suit three months after she became aware of the alleged crime, she had forfeited her right to legal action -- Albawaba.com
