Those exclusive photos of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas' Nov. 18 wedding are getting less exclusive, but the pix of the celebrity pair's New York nuptials are still raking in the dough.
According to Mr. Showbiz, If you don't want to hunt down a copy of British magazine OK!, you can see many of the same photos in People magazine's Friday issue.
The online news source also said that People has reportedly spent $800,000 for the exclusive U.S. rights to the photos, according to Inside.com. Representatives for the supermarket staple confirmed that People purchased the photo rights from OK!, which is said to have paid $1.4 million for worldwide rights to the wedding snaps. Since the newlyweds already sold the rights to the use of their photos, they won't be seeing any more green from the People purchase.
By now it seems that every facet of the ceremony has already been reported and commented upon ad nauseam, from the guest list to the cake that wowed Martha Stewart. But 's senior editor, Larry Hackett, is counting on the public's appetite for one of the biggest weddings of the year to continue to be insatiable. He cites the best-selling issue of the mag that featured coverage of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's July wedding, which had only one lousy official wedding photo, as reason enough to devote several pages to the Douglas-Zeta-Jones wedding, even two weeks after the fact.
Hello!, a British rival of OK!, ran some unofficial (and evidently much cheaper) photos of the wedding in an issue that is again available on newsstands, after an injunction requested by OK! was overturned last Friday.
Back in August, another American publication, US Weekly, reportedly paid a five-figure sum to OK! for pictures of the couple's baby, Dylan.
Terry McDonell, editor of US Weekly, rationalizes to Inside.com, "Hey, everything costs something, we are influenced here by European standards that are not the same as ours," he says. "I'm not ashamed about it." – Albawaba.com.
