Several documentaries on the plight of the Palestinians were featured at the Cairo International Film Festival’s opening on Thursday, November 9, reported Agence France Presse.
The news agency said that the 24th festival opened Wednesday with a film about the history of Jerusalem from the British mandate before Israel was created in 1948, to the Palestinian uprising that erupted in late September. This film is expected to be followed by a film entitled The Olive Tree and another depicting the life of famous Palestinian poet, Fadwa Tuqan.
The festival will also honor the late martyr child Mohammed al-Durra, who was filmed as he was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the arms of his father.
The opening day of the festival also marks the 40-day passing of the death of the little boy.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Culture, Faruq Husni, who hosted this year’s opening ceremonies, honored international star and guest of honor, Italian actress Sophia Loren, reported (the) Al Bayan newspaper.
The Egyptian daily reported that the actress, who arrived in Egypt last Monday, November 6, expressed great joy and deep gratitude for this great honor.
Loren, who was the first actress to receive an Academy Award Oscar for best Foreign Film, and who has also received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes film festival, said “I have participated in various festival, and I have been honored many times.
