Indian star Amitap Patchan has sent his regrets for not attending the 17th Alexandria Film Festival starting September 5, according to the Qatari daily Al Raya.

The festival organizers had announced they would honor Patchan and present him with an award at the conclusion of the event, but the Indian embassy in Cairo sent an apology from the star without mentioning the reasons for his absence.

Patchan’s apology is the latest crisis to face the festival, since several hotel owners in Alexandria have refused to host the festival.

The star’s wife was chosen to preside over the festival jury. It is not yet known whether she will fulfill her role - Albawaba.com
