Kathem El Saher refuses to announce his marriage to Spanish woman publicly due to the political crisis in Iraq

Iraqi singer Kathem El Saher has been forced to keep his recent marriage under a lid due to the political crisis in the region and the possibility of a war on Iraq. One of the main reasons behind this is due to the fact that his new wife, whom he has lived a somewhat romantic love story with, is half Spanish (from the father’s side) and half Arab (from the mother’s side).  

According to the Egyptian weekly magazine Al Nujoom, Kathem feels that the time is not appropriate to announce his marriage publicly because of public tension and negative opinion towards the West. The singer has taken residence for him and his new wife in Paris-France, but is unable to spend all his time with his bride due to his busy schedule. Despite his constant travelling, the singer makes it a point to spend as much of his time with his wife wanting to be a dedicated husband. 

On a different note, the singer recently moved his mother out of Iraq to reside in a new home in Egypt, incase of war breaking out. Kathem was unable to do this to the rest of his family due to their large number, which exceeded fifty individuals.  

The Iraqi singer released his new album in June entitled “Qissat Habibain” (two lovers story). In this album he offers 12 songs that cover all forms of sung words including poem, Mawwal and pop song.  

“I recorded 24 songs written by prominent poets and I had to select 12 only, which was a very difficult task. Ultimately my choice was right and I am very happy with this album for its quick success,” Saher said.  

He added, “a number of poems and many difficult songs were available to me but my audience asked me to go back to the simple pop songs. This is the right of my audience because they have missed Mawwal and pop songs. But I was hoping to record the long poems which were delayed upon the request of my audience who needed simple words.”  

Frequently, the singer finds “composing pop songs more difficult than poems. This is due to the fact that a poem and beautiful words bring pleasure and relaxation. Here comes creativity but the difficulty in a pop song lies in the need for it to be simple in order to reach people and be close to their souls.”  

Saher reiterates that he has always been calling for love and not for breaking away. He said, “I am a constant lover who search for humanitarian topics. The poem “Two Lovers” is completely new in everything and its content is different. It is a sweet song written by Karim al Iraqi and depicts the care of a woman for her lover even if they differ or depart from each other.” - Albawaba.co
