Egyptian actress Laila Fawzi stands shoulder to shoulder to help Samah Anwar in her direction debut through playing the starring role in the romantic series Piano along with Abu Baker Ezzat and Dalia Mustafa.

“This is the only series in the course of my career which I accepted to play in without knowing anything about it. The reason behind this is that I want to support its director Samah Anwar who faced a big plight but returned to work vigorously and I have to help her,” Fawzi told the UAE daily al Bayan.

She added, “in the series I play the role as a woman who supports her mentally ill niece and attempts to take her out of her crisis despite all social circumstances which the girl faces. The series takes us back to the time of romance, which the small screen has missed for a long time. The series also tackles many social and psychological issues.”

“Samah is a talented actress and her closeness to the camera and directors helped her acquire knowledge in direction techniques. She also attended a number of courses in direction at the most leading American institutes. So she does her work armed with talent, experience and knowledge which lead the director to success,” said Fawzi.

She noted that she was waiting for the screening of the film Fares Dhahr al Khail (Knight on Horseback) in which she plays the role as an English lady who comes to the Egyptian desert area of al A’lamain to visit the grave of her husband. This character has rare humanitarian and loyal traits and assesses fairly the English ladies who are known for their lack of loyalty to their lovers and husbands.

“I have loved the historic roles since I played my starring in the film al Naser Salahiddin and my love to these roles has increased by time to the extent that my major dream is to play a starring role in a film or a series on Cleopetra, the mysterious woman who was full of contradictions. Cleopetra puzzled every body and made the international cinema penetrate deeply in her character through many artworks. I have recently taken part in the series Bawabat al Halawani which combined between historic and social drama and the new romance line in historical productions. The credit for this work goes to the screenwriter Mahfouz Abdel Rahman who scripted the series in an attractive and wonderful manner,” added Fawzi -- Albawaba. Com
