Prominent Egyptian actress Amina Riziq, known for being the mother of Egyptian cinema, passed away at the age of 90. The late actress dedicated over 70 years of her life to the cinema and is widely admired throughout the Arab world.
Recently, doctors who were supervising the health condition of Amina had given orders forbidding visitors from coming, stressing that she was in a very critical state. The actress had been placed in the ICU and was not to be disturbed under any circumstance.
According to the London based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, Amina was taken to hospital when she came down with a sever case of the flue that has left her ill for several month. Her body must be rested at all times and cannot be overworked.
Amina Rizq whose artistic career goes back to more than 50 years, as she has been contemporary with all stars and played many types of roles, last starred in the Ramadan TV drama series Ayna Qalbi (Where is My Heart?). Costarring in the series scripted by Magdi Saber and directed by Magdi Abu Amirah are Yusra, Abla Kamel and Mahmoud Qabil.
The actress had played the role of Wisal’s (Abla Kamel) mother, a woman from a veteran countryside family which has its own marriage traditions. The mother inherits large agricultural lands and real estates from her family but she is very strict with her daughter. She refuses her marriage until the girl reaches 40 while she stays single; the fact that leads to disputes with her mother.
The veteran actress performed all kinds of roles including a small girl at Yousef Wahbeh’s theater, young woman, wife, mother and grandmother. She played romantic, love, queen and destitute roles. Amina also participated in approximately 100 films and presented all she ever wanted. She lived her best days on the stage. She never married saying that she does not regret her decision to dedicate her life to her career.
