Lebanese singer Nawal Al Zoughbi is refusing to participate in any music awards festivals due to the ‘dishonest manner’ in which winners are chosen. Nawal refused to accept the ‘Music Award Trophy,’ despite the eagerness of most singers to receive such an award.

According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, Nawal explained that she has taken this stance against music awards festivals after her experience with the ‘Video Clip Awards Festival.’ She said that she was nominated for best female Arab singer, and when certain circumstances forbade her from attending the ceremony, the officials gave her award to Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi instead.

The singer stated that she has lost trust in any awards festivals because there is no real criterion for choosing the winners, and that “officials select the winners based on convenience and popularity.”

Nawal appeared as a guest on the new entertainment program “Iktishaf Al Baroud” (Al Baroud’s Discovery), hosted by Tony AL Baroud, on December 12.

The weekly program is a talk show that features guests from around the Arab world, from the entertainment industry, a political or sports figures, or others with social significance. It is a comedy, similar to the American talk show ‘The David Letterman Show,’ beginning with a monologue and then featuring Q & A’s with the different guests in a personal atmosphere.

On a similar note, the episode Nawal filmed for the weekly musical program “Dandana” will be aired on the Arab satellite channel MBC on December 21.

The episode was filmed last month and the singer sang a collection of her popular hits.

Nawal is currently working on finalizing her upcoming album, and will soon travel to Egypt to hold a private concert.

The singer is scheduled to hold a New Year’s Concert in Abu Dhabi that will broadcast live on the Arab satellite channel ‘Infinity.’
