Lebanese singer Nawal Al Zughbi has started promoting her concerts via the ubiquitous mobile phone.
Zughbi hyped her concert held last Friday in Beirut, as part Beirut festivals at Al Ramlah Al Baida shore, by sending out technologically advanced and intimate advertisements over the phone.
The singer contacted a large number of people by mobile a few days before the concert to surprise them by saying: “I am Nawal and would like to invite you to a unique concert on August 3. I shall offer you the sweetest songs. I shall be waiting for you, don’t be late…bye.”
The audience responded to Zughbi’s telephone invitation and more than 1,000 people rushed to attend her concert, tolerating overcrowding, pushing and rebuffs by the festival organizers for the sake of their singer.
Zughbi has been the target of a smear campaign because she was photographed with a hexagonal star on her belt. The star reportedly resembled the Star of David, which caused her embarrassment and led to the cancellation of a concert in Egypt.
But the singer’s office in Beirut denied that she faced any problems in Egypt as a result of the focus of a Lebanese magazine placed on her photo with the star.
The London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat cited Zughbi’s office executive as saying that what happened was a sneaky interpretation of an ornament by obnoxious people, asserting that Zughbi sang in a concert at Egypt’s Zamalek sports club last July before 30,000 people.
Zughbi is expected to perform in a concert in Alexandria on August 14, in addition to another one in Cairo on October 12 - Albawaba.com
