The establishment of the first cinema society in Oman will boost efforts to establish an effective and coordinated cinema industry in the country, an Omani official said Monday.

Director general of the culture at the Omani ministry of heritage and culture, Khaled al Ghassani told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the cinema society, which was established last Saturday, will put those who work in the cinema industry under one umbrella and it would protect their financial and copy rights.

He pointed out that the aim of the cinema society is to support the Omani cinema and literary movement during the next stage and to introduce the Omani performers and their productions at the Arab and international arenas.

“Recently Oman organized the first and second cinema festival which were very successful as many Arab and international actors were attracted by it, where the third cinema festival will be held this year with the participation of many actors and movies from the Arab world, Europe and the US, al Ghassani added.

He expressed hope that the Omani cinema society would develop the cultural and literary movement in Oman in particular and in the GCC states and the Arab world in general – Albawaba.com
