Lebanese singer Rima Khashish performed Saturday a concert at the Lebanese American University that includes songs by the Arab prominent singers.
She sang Sayyed Darwish’s Lahn al Shaitan (Devil’s Cadence) from al Baroukah play, Sabah’s Ya Lail composed by Zaki Nasif and songs by Mohammed Abdel Wahhab, Umm Kulthoum, Asmahan, in addition to other special songs which were merely modern short terza merzas written and composed by Fuad Abdel Majeed al Mistikawi before he died.
“I have my own projects but production is not plentiful. I had a joint project with Sherbel Rohana in 2000 written by Nizar al Hindi and entitled Le Anni Aughanni (Because I Sing) and we are waiting for the producer in order to record. I sang last Ramadan along with a troupe from the Netherlands that plays Jazz. The troupe is comprised of three players from Netherlands and two from Iraq, Orient Express.
I got acquainted with the troupe when Nidhal al Ashqar hosted the three Dutch music players at al Medinah Theater where they played the Jazz music and expressed their willingness to get familiarized with the Arabic music. From that point collaboration started between us. It was the third time for me to perform concerts at al Medinah Theater,” Khashish told the daily al Nahar.
Commenting on her experience with the Dutch troupe, Khashish said, “it is a difficult one particularly in view the type of singing I perform which is an old singing with western musical instruments but it is beautiful.”
Commenting on her latest activities with the troupe, she says, “a CD will soon be released with a live concert on it from the Music Meeting Festival in the Netherlands which we toured and where we performed many concerts. The troupe has taken the responsibility of recording and production. I will also travel to Holland next May to gear up for a new program along with the troupe which will return to the Middle East in summer to make tours in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.” -- Albawaba.com
