Egyptian actress Sharihan filed a lawsuit against the Egyptian bar association challenging the associations decision to refuse her membership due to her work in acting.
“I shall resort to the court to safeguard my right in the bar association membership particularly after I have obtained my BA in law,” Sharihan told the Qatari daily al Rayah asking about the reasons for refusing her request. She claimed that the association action caused her a lot of harm and indicated that she is the granddaughter of the former association’s head Abdel Fattah al Shalqani.
Earlier, the bar association’s officials demanded the actress to quit artwork because she cannot join their association while being a member of the Actors’ Association at the same time.
“The association council is not obstinate with Sharihan but it rather respects law and works accordingly. Para 4 of clause 41 of the law stipulates that an association member cannot practice another profession. Sharihan has been working as an actor for many years,” the head of the Bar Association Sameh Ashour told the daily al Hayat.
He added that the association would welcome Sharihan when she leaves acting and dedicates her time for working in law. But she did not agree on that and insisted on both professions at the same time, he said.
Sharihan obtained her BA in law after she spent 13 years in college during which she entered the spotlight as a cinema star in many films and shows -- Albawaba.com
