Wadie Al Safi Nominates Mu’een Sharif as Successor
Following his concert at the prestigious Egyptian Opera House, the Egyptian press highlighted a talent shown by Mu’een Sharif, agreeing with the renowned Lebanese singer Wadie Safi that Mu’een Sharif was his unrivalled successor.
At the concert last month, the young Lebanese singer, Mu’een Sharif performed many classics of Safi, the octogenarian folk singer who is very popular in Egypt and the Arab World.
The London-based daily Al Hayat said that Sharif is one of the most competent singers specializing in particular in Safi’s old songs that belong to the folkloric heritage. He got an unprecedented applaud at the Opera, for a young singer.
Sharif found himself in the media limelight. The press wrote about how the Egyptian audience and the elite interacted with him, and the qualities of his voice, which they said is a copy of Safi’s when he was in his prime.
Wadie Safi has himself acknowledged this, saying on more than one occasion that Sharif would be his successor. He is said to have often attended Sharif’s concerts and expressed his admiration at his voice’s potential -- Albawaba.com
