A tribute to legendary Algerian Warda.... by Iraqis and Lebanese?
Iraqi star Kadim Al Sahir and Najwa Karam's backing singers were among those paying tribute to Algerian legend, Warda at the recent concert for independence. The performance marked 50 years of independence for Algeria so Kathem and Najwa's band sang 'Eid Al Karama' (Celebrating Honor), one of Warda's best known hits.
The Algerian legendary singer passed away a month and a half ago from a heart attack. Since then stars all over the Arab world have been keen to pay her tribute. It's a very occurence for Kadim to sing anything other than his own songs in concert but clearly he thought it was more important to honor Algeria on this stage.
But Kadim said there was no grand plan to get Najwa Karam's backing vocalist on board - he simply had a few of his own band absent. The Lebanese singer performed a few days earlier so fortunately came to the rescue.
