Prominent Algerian singer Warda is scheduled to return to Cairo, where she will reside on a permanent basis.
The singer has been in Paris for the past few months to undergo medical tests to ensure that the liver transplant she had a few years ago is functioning as it should, and that she is in general good health.
The singer stated that she has decided to make her permanent home in Cairo, but will make frequent visits to Algeria. Warda has sold her apartment in Paris in anticipation of her move.
Warda was warned by her doctors two years ago to resign from her singing career after her health condition deteriorated, stressing that holding concerts could be hazardous to her health.
However, the singer has already begun preparations for her upcoming album.
According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, the last performance the singer held was during Algeria’s Independence Day and celebrations for the revolution. She performed a special song, honoring her beloved country, marking her return to the industry.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika awarded Warda with a medal, the “National Order of Merit,” during the ceremony held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the November 1st 1954 Algerian Revolution.
