BAHRAIN were given a favourable draw for the men's handball tournament at the upcoming 12th Arab Games, to be held in Doha next month.

The nationals and recently crowned GCC Games champions were placed in group 'B' for the competition's preliminary round. They are alongside Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Djibouti.

Group 'A' features Jordan, Sudan, Qatar, Morocco, Kuwait and defending champions Egypt.

This will be the first time the Bahrainis will be participating in the Arab Games' handball event.

At the previous competition in 2007, Egypt claimed the title after finishing atop the standings at the end of the seven-nation single round-robin. They won all six of their games en route to capturing the crown.

Algeria were the silver-medallists with five victories, while Saudi claimed the bronze with four wins. Jordan, Morocco, Iraq and Libya were the other teams taking part that year.

Thirty-three sports are set to showcase in the upcoming Arab Games, which takes place at different locations across the Qatari capital from December 9 to 23.

Bahrain are one of 22 nations set to compete in the quadrennial multi-sport event, which is expected to bring together more than 8,000 athletes.

The other countries taking part are Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen.
