Algeria: Security forces deployed after riots in Algiers
Young Algerian protesting the social conditions have set buildings on fire and hurled stones at police. The riots in Algeria amid anger at recent price rises and unemployment come days after similar events in another North African nation, Tunisia.
According to the AP, Algerian security forces deployed in the Algiers neighborhood of Bab el-Oued on Thursday after riots Wednesday night. A police station and a mobile telephone store were among buildings set ablaze before police intervened to stop the riots.
The violence came after hikes in prices for milk, sugar and flour in recent days.
