AUD organizes Blood Donation Campaign

The Health Center at the American University in Dubai (AUD) organized The Blood Donation Campaign in association with the Blood Bank Department, Al Wasl Hospital in Dubai, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Blood collected during the campaign will be donated to the Thalassaemia Center at Al Wasl Hospital in Dubai.
Nelly Halabi, Director of the Health Center at AUD, commented, “AUD organizes the Blood Donation Campaign every six months on campus and we are glad to be part of this humanitarian cause. Our main objective is to provide regular help and support to patients suffering from Thalassaemia.“ “Donating blood is healthy since it minimizes the risk of a heart attack and decreases blood pressure,” she concluded.
AUD Student, Staff and Faculty members donated their blood, along with many of their relatives and friends, in a commendable act to offer genuine support to The Thalassaemia Center. Medical staff from Al Wasl Hospital assisted the AUD Health Center staff during the event, which also included Hemoglobin Blood Tests and Medical check ups for each donor.
The Thalassaemia Center, which launched its operations in early 1989, is considered to be a leader in the treatment of Thalassaemia in the UAE and the Gulf. Many cases of Thalassaemia are accepted daily in the center's fully equipped facility.
The Blood Donation Center at Al Wasl Hospital conducts outreach programs across Dubai in hotels, schools, universities, and companies on a regular basis. AUD is set to organize another Blood Donation Campaign in the Fall of 2009.
