Manama burns as protestors clash with police on anniversary
Protestors took to the streets on Bahrain's capital for the anniversary of the Saudi-led crackdown on the Shia uprising against the Bahraini government, AP reported on Thursday.
Demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails and burned tires in ongoing clashes with the police in Manama.
The protests mark the second anniversary of the intervention by Saudi forces, alongside other Gulf states, to halt the growing unrest against the Sunni government.
Bahrain is a Shia majority state but is led by a Sunni ruling elite. During the last two years of protests, police have repeatedly been accused of using excessive force against demonstrators as well as torturing those in detention.
