Israeli authorities on Thursday shut the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem following the shooting of a far-right Jewish rabbi.

PLO Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour told the Security Council on Wednesday "east Jerusalem has always maintained an Arab and Islamic identity and will continue to do so" (AFP/ File Archive).
