Dubai Judicial Institute signs cooperation agreement with Ajman University of Science and Technology
Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), a leading center of law studies and judicial training in Dubai, has announced that it has recently signed a cooperation agreement with Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) in line with the common goals of both parties to develop the legal and judicial system in the UAE. The agreement was signed by Dr. Jamal Al-Sumaiti, Director General of Dubai Judicial Institute and Thamer Saeed Salman, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs at AUST, in the presence of representatives from both parties, including Dr. Al Shihabi Al Sharkawi, Dean - College of Law, AUST; and Dr. Jamal Al Saidi, Faculty Member, College of Law, AUST; among others.
The agreement complements DJI’s vision of providing national human resources with comprehensive training programs that meet practical requirements, while qualifying them adequately to take up leadership positions in the judicial system, in addition to promoting transparency and best practices.
As per the terms of the agreement, Dubai Judicial Institute and the College of Law at Ajman University of Science and Technology will exchange experience, knowledge and technical materials, such as books and research work, in addition to participating in conferences, seminars and workshops organised by the two parties. The Institute will provide practical training programs for students of law at AUST to qualify them adequately for the labour market in accordance to the highest international standards.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Jamal Al-Sumaiti said, “This agreement represents a significant step towards providing law students in the country with the required practical skills according to the highest levels of efficiency, while fully preparing them to work in the judiciary and public prosecution. Through this partnership, we aim to bridge the gap between the knowledge acquired and the requirements of the legal profession. This will subsequently contribute to building a generation of professionals that is able to further develop an integrated legal and judicial system, and reaffirm our commitment to integrate the concepts of sustainable development within specific programs and frameworks. In this regard, we seek to continue our cooperation with various leading educational and academic institutions locally, regionally and globally, including the Ajman University of Science and Technology. This will enable us to achieve our vision of promoting investment in education, training and rehabilitation, and sharing knowledge in the area of jurisdiction to raise awareness about the importance of law and its role in building an integrated knowledge-based society.”
For his part, Mr. Salman stated that the College of Law at Ajman University of Science & Technology greatly valued the signing of this agreement with an institution which has proven its efficiency and professionalism; he considered that cooperation with the Judicial Institute will add value to the University. He also said that the agreement is a first step aimed at narrowing the gap between what is taught and what is applied practically, by using existing legal resources, as well as information and various research and teaching methods that are under development. He noted that in this context all courses taught in the College of Law will soon be delivered electronically through the Moodle E-Learning system.
Established in 1996, the Dubai Judicial Institute aims to educate and train aspiring judges, prosecutors and their assistants, legal experts and lawyers. The Institute also provides training and consultancy services to various agencies and institutions - both private and public – and conducts research and studies in all areas of law and jurisdiction, locally, regionally and globally.
