DZC’s Board of Commissioners meets with the Jordanian-Syrian Industrial Committee
The Board of Commissioners of the Development Zones Commission (DZC) met with the Jordanian-Syrian Industrial Committee during the latter's three-day visit to Jordan, which took place between the 26th and the 28th of October.
This step comes as a manifestation of both parties' efforts to reinforce collaboration and experience sharing with regards to industrial cooperation and the rules of origin, towards establishing an integrated base of industrial services in the Arab World. This comes under the umbrella of the 13th round of interim meetings held between the Higher Jordanian-Syrian Committee, which were held in Damascus last October. It is also an implementation of the memorandum of understanding for industrial cooperation between the two countries for the years 2008-2010, singed at the Ministry of Industry & Trade in Amman.
Headed by the Production Manager at the Syrian Ministry of Industry, the members of the Syrian delegation met with their Jordanian counterparts and were briefed by (DZC) about the Development Zones operations, vision and mission, in addition to an explanation on the mechanism of operation within the legal and regulatory framework governing customs duties and certifications of origin in the various development and duty free zones around the Kingdom. The brief also tackled an overview of the recently approved amended Development Zones Law and the possibilities for Syrian-Jordanian cooperation.
DZC's Chief Commissioner Dr. Bilal Bashir indicated that this visit was organized with the objective of sharing the longstanding experiences of both Syrian and Jordanian sides in the arena of industry. He added that "Jordan has a rich experience when it comes laws and regulations governing the industrial sector, which materialized recently in the amendment of the Development Zones Law under a streamlining strategy that seeks to unify investment references and bolster local capacities. This visit was organized in the spirit of cooperation, in hopes of exploring all vistas of possibility."
DZC is the financially and administratively autonomous entity responsible for creating, regulating, facilitating and monitoring the Development Zones in Jordan. Established in 2008, the DZC aims at increasing investment into the Kingdom, empowering the private sector to lead in the zones' development and management, stimulating the economic growth and enhancing local living standards.
DZC's vision is directed and supervised by a Board of Commissioners and supported by a highly qualified team that works in partnership with Master Developers, charged with managing the building, development and operation of the Development Zones. To date, six Development Zones have been created in Mafraq, Irbid, Ma'an, Dead Sea, Jabal Ajloun and Dabouq in the heart of the capital Amman.
